Fountain

Fountain is located in north-central Mason County in Sherman Township. As of the 2000 census, the village population was 175. It was founded in 1882 as a station on the Pere Marquette Railroad. It was named by Nicholas J. Bockstanz from a spring he observed there, most likely near the north branch of Lincoln Creek, which flows through town. It organized as a village in 1913. Fountain has survived the years primarily as a farming community and with a strong community spirit that reflects family, small business and hard work.
